Get Started

Making a Planter
  1. Go to tinkercad.com, sign in, and create a new design.
  2. Drag out a Polygon (Hexagonal Polygon)
  3. Resize it to approximately 101.6mm x 101.6mm x 101.6mm the equivalent of (4" x 4" x 4")​
Planter Soil
  1. Drag out any shape, but in this example, we are dragging out a cylinder
  2. Resize it so it is slightly smaller than the original shape. For example:
    • ​​Resize it to 80mm x 80mm x 101.6mm+
  3. ​Align both shapes in the center
  4. Check to make sure cylinder doesn't puncture the bottom of the pot.
  5. Click the cylinder and make it a Hole.
  6. ​Group both objects.

Planter Drainage Holes
  1. Create drainage holes for the excess water to leave the pot.
  2. Drag out a cylinder.
  3. Resize it to 6.35mm x 6.35mm
  4. Align cylinder so that it cuts through the bottom of the planter.
  5. Duplicate the cylinder 4 times for a total of 5 drainage holes.
  6. Align them so they are evenly spaced out
  7. Click the Hole button on each cylinder to cut the hole through the bottom of the planter.
  8. ​Group the entire planter
Customizing Your Planter
  1. Now that you have the planter created. Try to customize each side to make it more personalized.
  2. For example you can add the following:
    • ​​Your Name
    • Happy Mother's Day
    • Heart
    • Other shape designs
    • Use the hole to make an imprint on the side
  3. ​Watch the video on how to drag a workplane to the side of your shape. This should help you align your work perfectly to each side.
  4. When done, group your entire planter
  5. ​Export as an STL file and upload to Google Classroom
